LIFE IN DHARAVI
We are a group of young individuals striving to bring Dharavi back to life. Dharavi is a locality in Mumbai, known as the Asia’s largest slums. Dharavi is the largest hub of manufacturing leather, textile and pottery products. It is considered to be the most densely populated area in the world, housing about 1 million people in just 2.1 Square Kilometers. Dharavi’s leather industry gives employment to more than 300,000 local people. Quite a significant proportion of Dharavi’s economy is based on exports of leather, textile and jewelry goods. Markets for Dharavi’s goods include stores in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. These days Dharavi’s micro economy is dying because of COVID-19. Due to the complete lock down, the place which was one of the most demanding market once, is looking empty. People associated with its industry is facing severe financial problems. Mostly they are small craftsman associated with leather and textile industry. Due to the complete shutter down, there is no work and with no work comes the greatest worry of mankind which is poverty.

We understand that this is a huge fight and we have to be on our toes to cater this problem. Dharavi’s labors have the potential to beat any leather industry in the world through their unique skills of making exemplary products. Our team has realized that this will be a game changer for them. They just need a market to sell their goods and we are trying to provide them a fair market to sell their goods.
